The Headquarters of Arkema is located in Colombes, near to Paris (France). The group has over 13,000 employees and is dedicated to the production of special industrial chemicals, as well as polymers like PMMA (Poly Methyl Methacrylate) and performance products like Rilsan® (PA 11), Rilsamid® (PA 12), Pebax® (TPE-A), Orgalloy® (PA alloy), Rilsan® T (PA 10.10), Rilsan® HT (PPA), Rilsan Clear (transparent PA), Kynar® and Kynar-Flex® (PVDF).
The origin of the company can be found in the 1970’s as ATO (Aquitaine Total Organico) - a company owned by Elf and Total. In 2004 when the company became independent the name was changed into ARKEMA. The Arkema group was launched on the Paris stock market in 2006. As a global group Arkema has several plants in Europe, North America and Asia.
Arkema is very strong in developing new products bringing advantages to its customers. Currently Arkema has about 1,100 researchers in 7 research and development centres in France, the United States and Japan.
Arkema is strongly committed to developing green products from renewable resources. In 2011 Arkema acquired the Chinese company Suzhou HiPro Polymers Co. Ltd. This company specialized in the production of bio based performance polymers. The product range contains the long chain polyamides PA 6.10, PA 6.12, PA 10.10 and PA 10.12; all sold under the brand name Hiprolon®.
The Hiprolon® product range produced at Suzhou HiPro Polymers completes the product range of renewable performance polymers offered by Arkema. Already before the acquisition of Suzhou HiPro Polymers, Arkema had a wide range of performance polymers based on renewable resources like Rilsan® (PA 11), Pebax® Rnew (TPE-A), Rilsan® HT (PPA), Rilsan® T (PA 10.10) and Altuglas® Rnew (PMMA). Biobased polymers allow the reduction of fossil raw materials, as well as the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions.
